Nomi Network’s Fashion Corner: Leather is for Lovers

Good news for our animal loving fashionistas: Free People has just launched a new vegan leather collection! Although these two ideas do not normally coexist, Free People has discovered a way to provide customers with trendsetting products that will not compromise their cruelty-free values. The promotional video for this collection explains it in these terms, “you get a similar look and feel to real leather, but vegan leather is not made from animals, it is made from synthetic materials.” Their designers have created 4 pieces that can be purchased on their website and are available within an affordable price range ($98-$168). Currently, this is serving as a test project and depending on the reaction they receive from buyers, vegan leather products may enter into their permanent product rotation.

You must check out the collection’s lookbook and video, showcasing numerous Free People employees that voice their support for Vegan leather and their reasons for embracing an eco-friendly lifestyle. Their associate buyer states, “I love vegan leather because it gives the environmentally conscious person an option that’s still fashionable and wont cost you an arm and a leg.” In essence, vegan leather presents the best of both worlds, allowing you to guiltlessly incorporate leather pieces into your wardrobe at a fraction of the price. Their lookbook can be found on the Refinery 29 website.

Check out the products one by one on Free People’s website and post a comment to our blog letting us know what you think! We love seeing companies that utilize the fashion industry as a way to uphold social responsibility and we sense some snaps applaud Free People for doing so!
