Thank you for posting this story. Maybe if enough people realise what is going on, something will be done about it. I agree with 'Cure Premature', If prostitution was regulated correctly, it would surely reduce the chances of people being enslaved into what is now treated as an underground industry. Regulation would also help to provide the much needed medical services and safety of the people that 'choose' to work in the industry.

The sad part is that this not only happens in "developing countries" but in countries such the U.S., not to the same extent but it goes to show that this is not just a problem of "developing countries" but it's a global problem that is rising.

This is going to require that governments get tougher on the men and women who force these women and children into sex slavery and that strong social steps be taken to encourage people to fight against sex slavery.

I recently came back from a trip to SE Asia. I met many people there and developed very strong connections to them. A lot of my friends were prostitutes, or bar girls, I prefer to call them this as I feel their is a difference between bar girls and what we in the west consider a prostitute. These women are caring, and nurturing, and all around amazing people.

As far as the problem goes, it really is one of finance. Most of the bar girls in Thailand come from Isan, the poor rural NE part of the country, the rice farmers, or as I like to think of them, the backbone of the country. There is not much schooling, riches are waved in there face by westerners and on tv, and prostitution is a way for them to attain somewhat of a financial success as most Thai's make about $300 at best a month. For a bar girl this can be achieved in 2 to 3 nights.

If the problem is to stop, prostitution needs to be regulated so the pimps that are controlling the prostitute circles are no longer able to do so, corruption needs to be rectified, and schooling needs to be created. Otherwise nothing will change.

This is a heart wrenching story which reminds me of a young Laos woman I met at a job I had five years ago. She had undergone some of these same torments written here. Luckily she found family that lived here in the States and is in a safe environment.
We hung out at least 3 nights a week and she told me her stories, she also said that it was relieving to get this off her chest and she thanked me for being there for me.
I only pray for her and thank you for reminding me of that wonderful time we spent together.

Thank you for sharing information about Sex Trafficking. Many people are not aware that "prostitutes" in many poorer developing countries are victims of circumstances. Some still feel that these "prostitutes" are working for "easy money". We can do our tiny bit to make it known.
